According
to the Government's recent Urban White Paper, we may need
to provide 3.5 million new homes by 2012. This presents a
major opportunity to provide houses that truly contribute
to Sustainable Development.
Southfacing
is fully licensed to provide the latest EcoHomes and Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) assessments
and can offer a comprehensive service for the housing
sector. |
Our
services include:
- Sustainability
Reports and Statements for outline planning submissions
- EcoHomes
and CSH Pre-Assessments, where credits are identified for a target
rating and a report is provided) for planning submissions and
development analysis.
- Full EcoHomes
and CSH assessments, where after an initial guidance meeting, full
documentation is collected from the client for each credit targetted
and a full assessment is submitted to the BRE.
We prefer to
be involved from project inception to ensure that the design team
have a clear route and structure within which they can work. We
provide ongoing guidance to all design team disciplines throughout
the project and maintain good contact with the BRE.
N.B. An EcoHomes
or CSH assessment is normally carried out on domestic developments of 3
dwellings or more.

Using our experience of EcoHomes assessments as the foundation, and aside from the services mentioned above, we help our clients understand and achieve the new more stringent Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) criteria including the following:
- Mandatory Criteria: Since we are energy specialists we can use our understanding of low energy/carbon technologies to enable the most sensible, cost effecive route to acheiving the minimum requirements in the Energy category. We can also advise on how to achieve water savings, reduce waste and surface run-off, as well as help select the best route to compliance
- Advise on the selection of Code Types, since under the CSH, each Code Type must be assessed individually.
- Manage the now mandatory Post Construction Reviews.

and can offer a comprehensive and cost-effective service that
seeks to optimise BREEAM ratings within realistic financial
constraints.

all industry sectors. We understand the complex design issues
and conflicting interests associated with the provision of

For
Schools |
|
|
BREEAM
for Schools was launched by the BRE in late 2005 to provide
a truly independent design stage assessment for mainly new
build schools. This assessment method has been designed in
line with the massive Building Schools for the Future programme
which will see over £5.1 billion investment in new and
refurbished schools over the next ten to fifteen years.
Southfacing
is fully licensed to provide BREEAM for Schools assessments
and can offer a comprehensive and cost-effective service with
significant previous experience in the schools sector. |

Bespoke
|
|
|
The need
to set standards for all building types (e.g. leisure complexes,
courts, laboratories, military bases, shared accomodation)
has led to BRE introducing a system called Bespoke BREEAM.
With a
Bespoke BREEAM assessment BRE will write criteria specific
to the building and the functions within it (and there is
an additional fee for this work). After this, we at Southfacing,
as registered assessors, take over and (as with a standard
scheme) once the assessment is complete it will be submitted
to BRE for quality checks and certification. |
 |
We have experience
of several high profile Bespoke BREEAM projects so can provide guidance through
the entire process.
The
BRE own and operate the BREEAM and EcoHomes schemes. DCLG own and BRE manage the Code for Sustainable Homes scheme, Projects need
to be registered with the BRE and QA fees will apply. |
