Meet The Team
Ben has been working in the field of low energy buildings and applied renewable energy systems for 9 years in both academic and commercial positions. Prior to helping start up Southfacing Services Ltd, Ben was an Associate at Whitbybird Engineers (now Ramboll Europe) where he ran their Sustainability & Renewable Energy Group. Ben is listed on the CIBSE Register of Low Carbon Consultants and is a qualified assessor for BREEAM (Education, Healthcare, Offices and Bespoke), EcoHomes and NHER. He is a Chartered Engineer (CIBSE) and also holds a PhD in Solar Energy Engineering which was delivered through the Institute of Energy & Sustainable Development.
Lucy is a licensed EcoHomes, Code for Sustainable Homes and BREEAM Education assessor with extensive experience of carrying out assessments on domestic and mixed use developments. In addition Lucy was the project manager for the Low Carbon Designer project for the London Energy Partnership and has been part of other Southfacing software projects.
Mark has 15 years experience in commercial software development and has been IT Director for Southfacing Services since the company was founded in 2004. He has led in the development of numerous software products for the company including Carbon Checker, Carbon Keys, Climate Lite and Ripe About Now as well as bespoke projects for clients.
In his spare time he is also an award winning political blogger. He blogs at "Mark Reckons”
Clare has over 15 years experience working within the construction industry. Prior to joining Southfacing Clare was an Associate Director at BRE, responsible for the technical development and delivery of the non-domestic BREEAM schemes in the UK and internationally. Clare’s background is in structural engineering, she has a Masters Degree in Architectural Engineering and has held Chartered Engineer status through the Institution of Structural Engineers for over 10 years. Clare is a qualified BREEAM assessor under the Bespoke, Education, Industrial, International, Offices and Retail versions of the scheme.
Darren is a registered provider of SAP and EPC calculations through NHER. Darren also has significant experience in low and zero carbon technologies and uses this knowledge to provide feasibility studies. He also provides web based services to Southfacing and in partnering projects.
Kat is a qualified assessor under the BREEAM Offices scheme and is also a US Green Building Council LEED Accredited Professional. Provides support on many diverse projects. Katherine is also an Affiliate Member of IEMA, the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment.
Rhonwen provides administrative and accountancy support for Southfacing Services. This includes providing management accounts, organising travel arrangements and day to day cash flow management. She has a wealth of administrative and accountancy experience obtained over 20 years working mainly in the IT and Broadcasting Industries. She is qualified in personnel management and is currently studying towards an Open University degree in Mathematics and Statistics.
Russell has 10 years software engineering experience in a number of industries. He has programming skills in C++, C, Visual Basic .Net and Python among others and has programmed on Windows, Mac and Unix platforms. He is responsible for coordinating and developing software projects, including Climate Lite and Carbon Keys.
Tom is a licensed Code for Sustainable Homes assessor (through BRE) and is also licensed by NHER to carry out SAP calculations (in compliance with Building Regulations Part L1A). Tom’s other expertise includes renewable feasibility studies and the production of sustainability reports for planning and other purposes. Also a member of IEMA.
